Consortium of MnPALS Libraries Spring User Group Meeting April, 2006
1. Allowed fields, indicators, and subfields:
Tables were amended to adhere to current MARC21 and OCLC bib format standards.
Inaccuracies in the mandatory requirements and repeatable nature of subfields were corrected.
Local fields and subfields were added according to the wishes of consortium members.
2. Dependencies between fields
Tables were amended to adhere to current MARC21 and OCLC bib format standards. Specific relationships that were addressed were the following:
260 / 261 and 260 / 262
355 2# / 520 and 355 1# / 505
580 / 76X-78X
490 / 8XX
3. Content validation
Previously, when a bibliographic record was saved, Aleph generated up to five messages regarding the content of a single field with “new entry in the index” or “duplicate entry in the index” validation messages. To eliminate these messages,
Content checks were disabled for access point fields (name, title, uniform title, series, and subject headings).
Content checks were disabled for identifier fields and subfields (ISSN, ISBN, GPO, and system numbers).
4. Error messages
Error messages that were exceeding Aleph’s screen display limit were shortened.
Error messages were created or modified to correlate to changes made in field allowability and dependency.
