Attendees: Kathleen Ashe (SSU), Julie Benolken (IHC), Rod Bruce (PALS), Jim Byerly (MDT), John Daniels (MCT), Donna Davis (MDR), Todd Digby (MnSCU), Susan Dueis (PALS), Keith Ewing (SCS), Ala Garlinska (SCC), Paul Guerrero (PALS), Laura Hoelter (CSS), Dan Honetschlager (PALS), Robin Horowitz (MSL), Danielle Hoveland (DCT), Michael Kirby (DCT), Peg Lawrence (MSU), Luda Lindahl (PALS), Randi Madisen (CEN), Adam Marsnik (NDC), Pete McDonnell (BSU), Ron McGriff (PTC), Rosie Mock (MSU), Sarah Monson (GAC), Jay Nordstrom (GAC), Gina Pancerella-Willis (ARC), Lori Pesik (SMU), Pam Pitts (CWN), Linda Richter (PALS), Pam Sukalski (MWL), Linda Swanson (TRC), Elizabeth Tuckwood (MSL), Bruce Willms (MTR)
Lori Pesik (SMU) asked about the new email authentication options in Aleph version 20. Dan Honetschlager (PALS) If a library doesn’t want this functionality, nothing needs to be done.
Keith Ewing (SCSU) asked if campuses were investigating moving student email accounts to Gmail. Metropolitan State University is considering it. Dakota County Technical College has stopped using Metnet and students must use their own personal e-mail accounts.
6. Version 20 Update
Linda Richter (PALS) was asked to give an update on the version 20 upgrade. There will most likely be one day of system downtime, from a Friday night to Saturday, the last week of January 2010. First test conversion went OK, but there are issues with the ILL module; a bug that was fixed in version 19 is now an issue in version 20. A fix may be available before the upgrade.
Priv-07: these cleanup reports for unlinked Bib records and others libraries can now run themselves; Adam Marsnik (NDC) cautioned that these reports should be run by a library’s cataloger, or other designated person knowledgeable of the ramifications of deleting records from the catalog.
Priv-23: Great report to get cash transactions totals (debits and credits) by patron name; report will add up the total of all debits/credits. Good report to send to your campus business office.
Post your questions or comments (or if you would like to volunteer) to the Reports Working Group board on the MnPALS Forums.
Rosie Mock (MSU) reported on upcoming reports being worked on: report of frequently Interlibrary Loaned items; ISBN report which lists one ISBN per line with no extra data.
8. Workday Planning Possible Topics
Compare and contrast Summon and EBSCO Discovery Service, suggested by Adam Marsnik (NDC). Adam could compare NDC’s experience with Summon with College of St. Scholastica’s use of EBSCO Discovery Service.
Enhancements to LibData, suggested by Randi Madisen (CEN). Keith Ewing mentioned SCSU is looking at a creating an updated version of LibData; Adam Marsnik thought this session might be a good chance to get user input into a new version.
Keith Ewing (SCS) mentioned research into Affinity Clusters at St. Cloud State; might not be ready for a demonstration by the time of the workday.
Streaming Video product that group of the U of M, MnSCU, and Metnet is looking to cooperatively purchase, suggested by Adam Marsnik (NDC). A product may be chosen by March, 2011; perhaps Systems group could give input.
Keith Ewing (SCSU) mentioned open source Archon digital archiving tool.
Location: Dakota Technical College Library worked well for most last year and Michael Kirby can easily reserve this space again; possibly could be held at 7700 France, on one of the dates that the ILL/CIRC group has booked for Workdays
Possible dates: April 13 or April 15; ILL/CIRC are planning a workday on one of those days, and have booked both days. Systems could hold its workday on one of these; contact Leah Anderson (TRC), ILL or CIRC conveners to see which date would work best?
