Although we were not able to find enough presenters to do a full Reference Workday this year, we are planning a couple of special online sessions for the week of March 26 that we believe you will find of interest:
PALS Universe is "A Common Systems Approach to Knowledge Management and Scholarly Research For the Learning Communities of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities." If approved for funding by MnSCU, the components of PALS Universe will be available to all members of the Consortium of MnPALS Libraries. Stephen Elfstrand, PALS Executive Director, will explain the goals of the PALS Universe concept, describe the features and tools that comprise it, as well as answer any questions that you may have. He will also let you know how you can help us promote this idea to the decision makers on your campus.
Reference Collections Readings and Discussion
Session Date: Thursday, March 29, 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Bring your questions and ideas to this open discussion on how to provide Reference Services. What are you doing with Print Reference Collections? Spending levels, weeding, moving to general collection, etc? How are you integrating Electronic Resources into your Reference Collection? What online Collections/Packages are you using? How successfully are you integrating them? How do you publicize these electronic resources in your bibliographic instruction sessions? What other ways do you publicize these resources? Be ready to share your ideas! The PALS Reference Steering Committee has started a Wiki page, Reference Collections Readings and Discussion to get the discussion going.
