4. Steering Committee Elections - State University – Peter Jarnstrom (Minnesota State University – Mankato)
Discussion on changing one steering committee member’s term so term expirations are more evenly distributed. Craig Larson (North Hennepin Community College) agreed to extend his term to 2015.
Hannah Topp-Schefers nominated Peter Jarnstrom. Peter was elected by vote to serve again (with the stipulation that this will be his last term).
New ILL Steering Committee consists of:
Private Colleges - Sonja Timmerman (Gustavus Adolphus College) term expires 2014 Two-year Colleges – Craig Larson (North Hennepin Community College) term expires 2015 State Universities – Peter Jarnstrom (Minnesota State University – Mankato) term expires 2015 At-Large – Hannah Topp-Schefers (St. Cloud State University) term expires 2014
Reminder: the Steering Committee responsibilities include planning the ILL workday in the spring, creating agenda for the ILL User Group meeting and directing meeting.
5. ILL Policy – the last revision of the ILL Policy was completed in 2008. The policy defines boundaries of sharing materials within the consortium and between individual libraries and Minitex. Updates may be necessary. The ILL Steering Committee will review and report back to the User Group. Anyone interested in serving on that task force should contact Sonja Eilertson (PALS) or a Steering Committee member.
Sonja Eilertson (PALS) reminded us of the documentation portion of the MnPALS website. Access does require logging in with a user name and password; if anyone has additional documentation to share, please contact Sonja E.
ELUNA enhancement voting is on the horizon. Please see the PALS Report (p.10) for more information.
Minitex will be moving from the University of Minnesota server to the PALS server. Please see PALS Report (pp.10-11) for more information. Please clean up your records in anticipation of this move! Minitex will keep us updated. Please subscribe to the MnPALS Discuss list for updates.
7. Minitex Report
Minitex reported a 20% increase in electronic fills from previous year, most likely due to recent renegotiation of licensing.
Minitex can now lend Springer e-books as PDF files if under 60MB in size.
Dave Paulson will be retiring on November 1, 2013. Carol Nelson, with help from Kyle Triska, will be assuming responsibility for the electronic scanning department.
Webinars will be offered when Minitex makes the switch from the University of Minnesota server to the PALS server. Again, updates will be made on the MnPALS Discuss list.
Kathy Drozd (Minitex) reported on Minitex’s experiment with a tracking device to investigate the courier’s effectiveness. The device has been sent to several locations already and our courier service is doing great. Kathy may contact individual libraries regarding this experiment in the future.
The spreadsheet for direct borrowing/courier service was sent around and updated. Likewise, the email list for article delivery was sent around and updated. There was a reminder to update your Minitex policy directory, your OCLC policy directory and a suggestion to create a generic email address for article delivery if you have not already done so.
Sonja Eilertson (PALS) polled the group about interest in PALS developing a system similar to OCLC’s Article Exchange. There was a show of hands with approximately six interested parties.
9. Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned due to time restrictions before addressing remaining topics on the agenda:
Workday planning – if you have workday ideas or suggestions, please contact Sonja Eilertson (PALS) or one of the Steering Committee members.
Minutes respectfully submitted by Sonja Timmerman (Gustavus Adolphus College)
