This committee met immediately preceding the Cataloging User Group meeting and agreed to make the following requests:
Requested a global change of all subject headings tagged 692, 693, 694, or 695 to the appropriate 600, 610, 611, or 630 tag respectively. (Cataloging User Group approved.)
Requested that 690s and 691s be run against the subject authorities. If there is a match, then change the tag; if not, then leave as 690/691. (Cataloging User Group approved.)
New MARC21 data elements. Asked that the new elements be added to the validation tables. Requested that the new elements be compared to existing PALS indexing and the new Aleph indexes and that the new elements be indexed as other elements in the same fields are indexed. (Cataloging User Group approved both requests.)
The Task Force will continue to look into the issue of third party records being added to the database. This will be a significant issue as we move into Aleph.
Encouraged all catalogers to add 006 and 007 fields especially for integrated resources and on serials print records when there is a URL for a online version. Mary Ann Greenwald and Sandy Roe volunteered to write some basic guidelines to post on the Cataloging User Group list.
Further discussion generated the request that the 012 field in the serials record be taken out of the validation tables.
