Additions/Changes: Adam Marsnik noted that Normandale Community College is a Community College vs. Community & Technical College as listed in the 2009 minutes. With that change the minutes were moved for acceptance by Robin Horowitz (MN State Law Library); seconded by Bobby Bothmann (MSU, Mankato). Motion carried.
Elections for new Steering Committee members with a two year term beginning immediately. Amendment to change the Cataloging Steering Committee was presented.
Proposal: Replace the three representative types of Community Colleges and Technical Colleges with one type, MnSCU Two-year Colleges. MnSCU Two-year Colleges would have three representatives on the Cataloging Steering Committee.
Rationale: Since the MnSCU two-year colleges joined PALS more than 15 years ago, there has been a great deal of consolidation of the colleges leading to more consolidated campuses and fewer and fewer "true" Community and Technical Colleges.
In recent years, the Cataloging Steering Committee has had difficulty finding representatives from the three types of MnSCU two-year colleges who had the time and/or desire to serve on the Cataloging Steering Committee.
The proposed change would allow the same amount of representation for MnSCU two-year colleges on the Cataloging Steering Committee, with the benefit of increasing the pool of candidates willing to serve
Robin Horowitz (MN State Law Library) made a motion to accept the proposal. Dianne Narum (Bemidji State University) seconded the motion.
Discussion: representation for K-12 schools will remain vacant. Since there is only one K-12 school in the MnPALS consortium and since they have not attended a Cataloging User group meeting for years, it did not seem appropriate to appoint them to the position nor to abolish the position. Motion carried.
The following people were elected for a two-year term: Community Colleges (2-year college): Carrie Curie (MSCTC, Moorhead); Special Libraries: Sarah Quimby (Historical Society); State Universities: Dianne Narum (Bemidji State)
