1. Welcome – Nat Gustafson-Sundell opened meeting with introductions.
Dee Nolan announced that PALS staff members are previewing Aleph v.22 now and would like to go live in February 2015. She highlighted the following Acq issues:
In v.22, you can preview the EDI invoices, so you can clean up potential errors before loading data.
There have been problems reported with printing in v.22 that need to be addressed. This includes the export to Excel feature.
6. Discussion Topics
Results of survey from Spring 2014 workday: Nat displayed the feedback results from the previous workday. Survey showed a need for content for acq technicians. Nat asked all to keep this need in mind and send in suggestions via the MnPALS Mailing List, PALS Forum, or send ideas to the Steering Committee.
Members shared recent events in acquisitions in home libraries during the past year. Several mentioned budgetary issues. Nat asked group if a budget discussion would be good for next workday. Several nodded.
Nat asked for any comments on use of scheduling tools or productivity software. He asked if that would be a possible topic for workday and some agreed.
Others suggested offering a session on CCL searching (particularly on searching the fixed fields) and more ideas for cleanup projects.
7. Future ILS
PALS staff and the Future ILS Committee are exploring options for new library system. Dee noted that this work would take a few years. PALS members were offering Kuali demos during today’s user group meeting as a first step. Dee noted that all should be open to learning about enhancements from a number of vendors in order to make a good decision on our next system.
8. Spring 2015 Workday Planning
Dee asked the group if we should meet on a date adjacent to the ARLD day again. The upcoming 2015 Spring ARLD day is April 24 and a possible day for the Acq workday could be the April 23. Five people said that they went to both the Acq workday and the ARLD day last year. Seven people said they went to the Library Technology day held at Macalaster College, but others mentioned that since the Tech conference is already a two day event, an extra day for our Acq workday would cause too much time away from regular duties. The ARLD day would be agreeable. Dee also asked if staff liked meeting at 7700 France in Edina and noted that it is convenient for PALS staff who could use the technology at that site easily.
The group adjourned at 10:50 a.m.
