The University of Minnesota is going into production on Alma in late December. Minitex has resided on the Aleph server at the University of Minnesota and interlibrary loan transactions have been housed on that server. This is changing with the U of M move to Ex Libris’ Alma as the interlibrary loan component of Alma is not yet available for Minitex use.
In order to continue use of Aleph ILL, Minitex has been set up on the MnPALS server in Mankato. The new codes for Minitex are MNU and MII.
Resource, Description, and Access (RDA) is the new cataloging standard replacing AACR2. The Library of Congress adopted RDA for all new original cataloging on March 31, 2013. PALS works with the MnPALS RDA Task Force to test RDA changes and implement them in Aleph.
RDA modernizes and streamlines data in the catalog, provides guidelines on cataloging digital resources, and places a stronger focus on helping users find, identify, select, and obtain the information they want.
