MnPALS Interlibrary Loan Users Group: Fall 2008

Minutes

3. Additions/Changes to the Agenda
Sonja: addition to the agenda ODIN library system would like MnPALS consortium to add to patron email address to lending pickslip. Moved and seconded.

4. Spring 2008 Minutes
Moved to accept by Peter and seconded by Bruce. Minutes approved.

5. Direct borrowing discussion
Issue: libraries can directly borrow if part of Minitex delivery system and can borrow without contacting the library first. Dec. 1 – want to be removed from direct borrow list. Send to discuss list and list all libraries that have agreed to be a direct borrower.

6. Policy and Procedures Statement on ILL by MnPals libraries
Motion by Carol Nelson: amendment to the policy and procedure statement by MnPals Libraries.
Add Minneapolis Public Library at end of first sentence. Seconded by Joan and motion passed.

7. Changes to ILL form
Discussion concerning blank journal request – either more asterisks or wipe out mandatory fields.
Motion: to remove asterisk from mandatory fields and add the phrase “Missing or incorrect information may delay filling your request. “
Seconded and passed – to add the above sentence and remove asterisk from ILL form.
Suggested that “source” field be taken out or other terminology since students don’t understand meaning. Perhaps use “where found” or source of your citation.

8. Minitex report
Agnes Lee- Minitex shared a powerpoint “MINITEX Document Delivery & Delivery Update”

9. MnPALS Report- Sonja
Help buttons (explanation) – Sonja will report back on discussion list.
V19 – no date set.

10. Workday
Consensus was for a whole day in the Spring. Discussion list to send a survey to get views, suggestions (best practices)

11. Other
ODIN has requested that we add patron email address to lending pickslips. Will go ahead and add.

Discussion Notes for Agenda Items

  1. Follow-up on MnPals Interlibrary Forum discussion concerning direct borrowing
  2. Please read through the Policies and Procedures Statement on Interlibrary loan by MnPals Libraries found on the Interlibrary loan in the MnPals Forum in preparation for voting on adoption of the policy.
  3. Suggested changes to the ILL form
    1. There are too not enough asterisks used on the various fields and it is suggested that either have more fields with asterisks or we consider eliminating the asterisk system on the form and encourage people to fill out as many lines as possible.
    2. Is the "source" field is necessary? Suggest making it make an optional line with "(source)" in parentheses or change the word so it is clear what "source" means.
