MnPALS Fall 2009 User Groups

The Consortium of MnPALS Libraries Fall 2009 User Group Meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the Neighborhood House at Wellstone Center, 179 Robie Street East, Saint Paul.

  • Acquisitions/Serials Subsystem Business Meeting  (Room 208)
  • Breakout - General Cataloging Q & A  (Room 212)
  • Breakout - EZproxy / OCLC Link Manager and CUFTS (Room 272)
    • Perry Madden and Dan Honetschlager (PALS) look at how your proxy server and Open URL Link Resolvers can work together. Includes some setup hints as well as plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
10:00 - 10:50 a.m.  (Session 2)
  • Cataloging Subsystem Business Meeting  (Room 212)
  • Breakout - MnPALS Plus version 2  (Room 272)
    • Members of the MnPALS Plus Working Group and the PALS staff will talk about new features recently implemented for MnPALS Plus, as well as solicit opinions on what enhancements should be worked on next.

    • Breakout - GOBI/Blackwell Collection Manager (ACQ/SER)  (Room 208)
      • Is your library using an electronic service for selection and acquisition of monographs? Rachel Wexelbaum (St. Cloud State University) and Joe Holtermann (Minnesota State University, Mankato) will facilitate a discussion about two current services (YBP GOBI and Blackwell Collection Manager) and their benefits and challenges.
    • Breakout - Minitex Update   (Room 272)
      • Bill DeJohn and other Minitex staff will update attendees on Minitex projects and products

    • Circulation Subsystem Business Meeting  (Room 212)
    • Breakout - Adding ILL Borrowing Prints to communicate with your patrons  (Room 208)
      • Gustavus Adolphus staff added additional letters to ILL borrowing Print for Renewal Accepted, Renewal Rejected and Arrival Letter Second Notice. Sonja Timmerman (GAC/MNG) will present how she uses these letters to communicate with her patrons and Dan Honetschlager (PALS) will talk about how to add prints.
    • Breakout - PALSconnect: ERM / Linker (Room 272)
      • Dee Nolan, Linda Richter, and Perry Madden will introduce our newest products.

    3:30 - 4:20 p.m.  (Session 6)
    • ILL Subsystem Business Meeting  (Room 212)
    • Breakout - Legacy Amendment   (Room 208)
      • Kathie Otto (MN Historical Society) will talk about the Legacy Amendment, explain the new Historical and Cultural (Legacy) Grants program for history projects and historic preservation projects, and will answer general questions. Libraries are eligible to apply for history-related projects and to partner with other organizations on projects.
