Technical Services Report: January 2009

System news and work completed

  • Installed the latest version 18 service pack on dev18.
  • Installed new versions of the database and software and new parser for MnPALS Plus.
  • Loaded December Marcive records for the libraries that subscribe to the service.
  • Re-indexed the production database during Thanksgiving break.
  • Performed the first version 19 upgrade on dev19. Overall, it went well. We will have issues with a custom services limit of 30 in version 19, and it has been reported to Ex Libris. In the meantime, we are discussing a workaround.
  • Attended PALS Strategic Planning meetings.
  • Attended MLA and staffed a professional table to showcase PALS.

Work in progress

  • Ongoing system maintenance and upgrades.
  • Attending Indexing Task Force meetings.
  • Attending the PALS Communication Team meeting.
  • Continuing to work on PALS Support Center tickets.
  • Continuing to work with the UNIX system monitoring software. Working with the student systems administration assistant to learn and work with Nagios.
  • Continuing to perform weekly updates to the Authority database on the production server.
  • Working on SQL reports and services.
  • Loading PromptCat records for Minnesota School of Business (MSB).
  • Continuing to work on MnPALS Plus and VuFind. Working on recommendations from the Discovery Tool Task Force. Preparing to package the software for possible distribution and support services.
  • Working on configuring the Authority tables to test the new functionality in version 18.
  • Working on LDAP authentication.
  • Preparing to set up a version 19 zone on the production server.
  • Planning to perform another version 19 upgrade on the development server in the dev19 zone the first week in February.
  • Created a file with a SQL pull from the MSU50 ORACLE z16 subscription table to use as input to the p-serial-13 process for MSU to test the service.
  • Tested the p-acq-21 Banner/FRS Export service.
  • Set up Gustavus Adolphus College (GAC) to do EDI book ordering with Blackwell Book Services and Midwest Library Services.
  • Set up Bemidji State University (BSU) to do EDI book ordering with Midwest Library Services.
  • Will be talking with Yankee Book Peddler to discuss Title Source which is Baker and Taylor’s product similar to GOBI and Collection Manager.
  • Preparing to change the z16_copy_to_date in the z16 subscription tables and the z68_subscription_date_to in the z68 order tables from 12/31/2010 or greater to 12/31/2025 as requested by the Acquisitions/Serials User Group. This change needs to be done for each ADM using Acquisitions or Serials.
  • Preparing interview questions for the new ITS2 position.
  • Attended conference calls with a couple of library systems administrators that are using Evergreen.
  • Working on enabling the z39.50 functionality in GODOT which is the open source open URL linker for the CUFTS database.
