Technical Services Report February 2008System news and work completed
- Removed the SYS60 Holdings templates from the production, development, and Dev18 servers per request and approval of the Cataloging Users Group and relocated them to the following location: http://tables.dev18.mnpals.net/u18_1/sys60/pc_tab/catalog/templates/
- Installed the latest version 18 service pack on Dev18 on February 7, 2008.
- Released an alpha version of the Discovery Tool on February 7, 2008. It can be accessed at the following location: http://solr.mnpals.net/
- Created a new board on the MnPALS Forum for Discovery Tool questions, discussion, bug reports, and enhancement suggestions at the following location: http://forums.mnpals.org/index.php?board=35.0
- Fixed nearly 18,000 bib records with a cataloger and level on records owned by another ADM.
- Added a new report to the Circulation and Cataloging Items service menus in production called, New Titles for All Libraries (mnpals-48).
- Fixed the totals in the Acquisitions report, Titles Per Budget Spent (mnpals-28) to account for credit transactions.
- Fixed the service menus in version 18 to be consistent with the version 17 menus.
- Changed the Circulation and Cataloging Service menus for Items so that all options appear on both menus.
- Loaded November, December, January, and February Marcive records for SBJ, SCS, GAC, and BSU.
- Loaded NetLibrary 2007 eAudioBook collection set for IHC, BLC, and SBJ.
- Implemented Yankee Book Peddler’s Gobi product in production for St. John’s/St. Ben’s (SBJ).
Work in progress
- Ongoing system maintenance and upgrades.
- Attending Indexing Task Force meetings.
- Continuing to work on PALS Support Center tickets.
- Continuing to work with the UNIX system monitoring software.
- Continuing to work on LibProxy.
- Continuing to perform weekly updates to the Authorities database on Harp.
- Working on a new disaster and file recovery plan for backups.
- Working on SQL reports and services recommended by the Reports Group.
- EZProxy was installed at South Central College (SCC) for alpha testing. LDAP authentication was configured and tested. Once it is running smoothly at SCC, several libraries will be converted from LibProxy to EZProxy and so far, one new installation has been requested.
- Working on manual changes and set up for Version 18 and Integrated ILL.
- Discussing outstanding Support Incidents with Greg Gosselin, Manager of Support Services for Ex Libris.
- Evaluating and working on a local fix for the open URL ILL requests in version 18/Integrated ILL since Ex Libris states they will not have a fix for it until the May service pack.
- Continuing to work on the Discovery Tool.
- The suggested Marcive loader workaround still needs to be tested on Lute.
- Will be loading the 2007 High School and Community College set of NetLibrary records for the Anoka-Ramsey Community Colleges, Cambridge once configuration information is received.
- Waiting for p_manage_18_p (record loader using parallel processes), and “golem” fixes from Ex Libris.
- Waiting to hear from Ex Libris about problems with discounts and funds when using Blackwell’s Book Services Collection Manager to create order records in Aleph.
- ISRS is ready to test the cash file process, but we need an enhancement to the Aleph processes that handle this function. An enhancement request was submitted to Ex Libris. We will be working on an alternative as time permits.
