Technical Services Report: August 2007

System news and work completed

  • Set up a ftp site for the cash input/output file from ISRS on Harp.
  • The mainframe was shutdown, and all processing is occurring on Harp.
  • Loaded NetLibrary records for Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) and Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCT).
  • Deleted and reloaded the Marcive records for Gustavus Adolphus College (GAC). The Marcive records for all four libraries that subscribe to the service have been loaded through July 2007.
  • Completed a global delete for St. Cloud State University (SCS).
  • Implemented EDI with Yankee Book Peddler for Metro State University (MTR).
  • Placed five new services for inventory functionality on Harp (item-01, item-08, item-09, item-10, and mnpals-37).

Work in progress

  • Ongoing system maintenance and upgrades.
  • Ongoing installation of service packs on Lute and Harp for version 17 and ILL.
  • Attending Indexing Task Force meetings.
  • Attending Reports Group meetings.
  • Continuing to work on PALS Support Center tickets.
  • Continuing to work with the UNIX system monitoring software.
  • Continuing to work on LibProxy.
  • Continuing to perform weekly updates to the Authorities database on Harp.
  • Continuing to report ILL and Aleph version 17 software problems to Ex Libris.
  • Working on SQL reports and services recommended by the Reports Group.
  • Testing a Circulation services report on Lute called mnpals-36 that returns browse statistics for periodicals.
  • Working on the file transfer from the business office and reformatting it for input to Aleph.
  • Working with Ex Libris to fix x-services (ILL slow response) and p-cir-77 (patron delete) problems. Discovered that the x-services problem is happening on Lute also.
  • Waiting to hear from ISRS about testing the cash file process.
  • Will be attending ORACLE 10G training in August.
  • Preparing to apply the latest ORACLE security patches.
  • Working on installing the hardware upgrades. Will be upgrading Harp first and Lute afterwards. A target date of September 4th for version 18 installation on Lute is planned.
  • Preparing to upgrade to Solaris 10 for version 18.
  • Installed an open source Discovery Tool on Victory and opened it up for the Discovery Tool Task Force to use and evaluate. Approximately 800,000 records have been loaded (MSU, IHC, MWL, and HCC). Discovered a memory problem with Linux. Al is in the process of moving it to Solaris.
  • Will be installing a test version of EZProxy as an option to replace LibProxy.
  • Waiting for p_manage_18_p (record loader using parallel processes), p_file_99 (Marcive), and “golem” fixes from Ex Libris.
  • Waiting to hear from Ex Libris about problems with discounts and funds when using Blackwell’s Book Services Collection Manager to create order records in Aleph.
  • Waiting to hear from Ex Libris about the retrieval function problem with OWN codes that were added to the direct indexes.
