Technical Services Report: June/July 2007

System news and work completed

  • Attended the ELUNA conference and technical seminar in Spearfish, SD.
  • The production database was re-indexed on Lute and copied back to production on June 17th. The re-indexing fixed the following: phrase searches, "see from" references browse displays, the browse indexes for all logical bases from the GUI, added MnPALS Indexing Task Force recommendations to bib records (tab_008_config, tab_006_config, tab_type_config), and new keyword fixed field indexes to the holdings records (tab_007_config, tab_008_config, tab_ldr_config).
  • Received the new SUN hardware upgrades for Harp and Lute. There will be two 6900s to replace the 3800 and 6800 and Harp and Lute will end up with identical hardware.
  • The ftp site for patron data registration is in production.
  • Loaded a set of NetLibrary records for Riverland Austin (RAU).
  • Loaded the Marcive records for SCS and SBJ through June 2007.

Work in progress

  • Ongoing system maintenance and upgrades.
  • Ongoing installation of service packs on Lute and Harp for version 17 and ILL.
  • Attending Indexing Task Force meetings.
  • Attending Reports Group meetings.
  • Continuing to work on PALS Support Center tickets.
  • Continuing to work with the UNIX system monitoring software.
  • Continuing to work on LibProxy.
  • Continuing to perform weekly updates to the Authorities database on Harp.
  • Continuing to report ILL and Aleph version 17 software problems to Ex Libris.
  • Working on SQL reports and services recommended by the Reports Group.
  • Working on the file transfer from the business office and reformatting it for input to Aleph.
  • Set up EDI with Yankee Book Peddler for Metro State University (MTR). A test file was sent, but there has been no response from the vendor yet.
  • Reformatted the cash output file for version 17. Waiting to hear from ISRS about testing the cash file process.
  • Will be setting up another ftp site on Lute and Harp for the cash input/output file from ISRS.
  • Will be attending ORACLE 10G training in July and August.
  • Preparing to apply the latest ORACLE security patches.
  • Planning hardware upgrade installation dates and times.
  • Preparing to upgrade to Solaris 10 and ORACLE 10G for version 18.
  • The Discovery Tool Task Force has not met again. Correspondence has been through email. Al is working on installing and configuring an open source Discovery Tool.
  • Will be working on deleting and reloading the Marcive records for GAC.
  • Will be loading NetLibrary records for BLC and MCTC.
  • Will be working on a global delete for SCS.
  • Started work on implementing version 17 new inventory functionality.
  • Will be installing a test version of EZProxy as an option to replace LibProxy.
  • Waiting for p_manage_18_p (record loader using parallel processes), p_file_99 (Marcive), and "golem" fixes from Ex Libris.
  • Waiting to hear from Ex Libris about problems with discounts and funds when using Blackwell’s Book Services Collection Manager to create order records in Aleph.
  • Waiting to hear from Ex Libris about the retrieval function problem with OWN codes that were added to the direct indexes.
