Proxy ServerWhat is Libproxy? What is it Used For?
Libproxy is a simple rewriting pass-through proxy system designed especially for libraries. The server is located at the PALS office and maintained by the PALS staff
If you have patrons who are off-site, and who would like access to your on-site-only (e.g., IP-restricted or passworded) journals, databases, and full-text retrieval systems, then Libproxy is your solution. Patrons will use their barcode and password to authenticate against the MnPALS Library system. Once verified, they can go from site to site without having to "Log-in" again.
With its easy web interface, rich feature set, and flexible, secure single sign-on authentication, Libproxy is simply the best remote access solution currently available. You identify the URLs to interface with Libproxy then insert the Libproxy converted URLs into your local web pages. The patrons simply select the URLs on your local webpage, the same way they would go to URLs on any normal web server. Libproxy then acts as a portal, relaying the patrons on, invisibly, to the vendors’ web sites. There is no special client software to install and no need to reconfigure either the browser or the operating system. It’s easy to maintain.
