Technical Services Report November 2006

Development and Systems News
  • Completed work on the problem with Java Applets and LibProxy.
Work in Progress
  • Ongoing software fixes to reported system problems.
  • Ongoing system maintenance and upgrades.
  • Ongoing installation of service packs on Lute for version 15.5. ILL service packs are being installed on both Lute and Harp.
  • Installed the latest version 15.5 service pack on Harp on November 19, 2006.
  • Attending Indexing Task Force meetings.
  • Continuing to work with the UNIX system monitoring software.
  • Continuing to work on LibProxy.
  • Continuing to perform weekly updates to the Authorities database on Harp.
  • Continuing to report ILL software problems to Ex Libris and install service packs for ILL.
  • Waiting for p_manage_18_p (record loader using parallel processes), p_file_99 (Marcive), and "golem" fixes from Ex Libris.
  • Waiting to hear from Baker and Taylor to enable MWW to order from two accounts.
  • Claims testing with EBSCO will resume in version 17.
  • Waiting to hear from Ex Libris about problem with discounts and funds when using Blackwell's Book Services Collection Manager to create order records in Aleph.
  • Continuing to work on the Aleph 17 tables set up and configuration issues.
  • Created a base set of HTML documents in the Aleph 17 region. Local modification to the base set of documents is in progress. Once this is completed, the base set will be copied to each ADM and local ADM customization will be done.
  • Resized the Oracle database for version 17.
  • The production data from the 11/04/06 backup was exported from version 15.5 and used in the second conversion and upgrade process.
  • Exported the holdings records and used a fix routine to add the own codes to the records for this conversion.
  • Adjacency will be turned off and the keywords will be reindexed this weekend (December 2-3).
  • The fixed fields that were recommended by the Indexing Task Force will be added and the keywords will be reindexed again the weekend of December 9th.
  • A second conversion and upgrade from version 15.5 to version 16 to version 17 is in the final stages of completion. Indexing is done. Upgrading the delta data from version 16 to version 17 is in process.
  • Once the effort is finished, a more accurate timeline for the final production export, upgrade, and indexing will be developed.
  • A decision needs to be made about how and when to add own codes to the holdings records for the final version 17 production data load. It will most likely happen the following weekend post-production.
  • Globally changed the collection code on NetLibrary records for the four CTC libraries.
  • Loaded the backlog of Marcive records from 1/29/04 through 06/06 for WSU. Problems with the records were noticed after the load. May need to delete the weekly temp records to fix the problem. Investigation into the problem is underway.
  • Preparing to delete and reload all of GAC's Marcive records from 1/29/04 through the present. Will most likely occur the first full week in December.
  • Luda volunteered to be the convener of the Reports Group. The group has met three times to discuss reporting needs.
  • Luda and Mary Ann met with Rosie Mock from MSU Mankato to obtain more detailed requirements for the cir-30 item statistics report. A couple of fields (Browse and Booking) have been added to the report in the 525 and 555 region on Lute.
  • Currently working on trying to add another field (Collection) to the cir-30 report. Another meeting with Rosie Mock has been set up on November 29th to discuss further needs and requirements.
  • Work on the file transfer from the business office and reformatting it for input to Aleph remains to be done.
