Technical Services Report February 2007

Development and Systems News

  • Lute will be unavailable on 3/2/07 and Harp will be unavailable on 3/4/07 until approximately 9 am for operating system maintenance. A message will be posted to the list.
  • The ue-01 indexing process was aborting. Ex Libris diagnosed the problem and installed two hot fixes on Harp. It has been running since the fixes were installed.

Work in Progress

  • Ongoing system maintenance and upgrades.
  • Ongoing installation of service packs on Lute and Harp for version 17 and ILL.
  • Attending Indexing Task Force meetings.
  • Attending Reports Group meetings.
  • Continuing to work with the UNIX system monitoring software.
  • Continuing to work on LibProxy.
  • Will be installing a test version of EZProxy as an option to replace LibProxy.
  • The p-cir-77 process is broken.  A SI was sent to Ex Libris.  There are approximately 174,000 patron records waiting to be deleted once p-cir-77 works again.
  • Performed some system tuning to address memory issues on Harp. Continuing to monitor memory and performance issues.
  • Preparing to install the latest version of ORACLE and ORACLE patches on Lute.
  • Preparing to upgrade to Solaris 10 and ORACLE 10G for version 18.
  • The backlog of Authority records were loaded on Harp. Continuing to perform weekly updates to the Authority database.
  • Continuing to report ILL software problems to Ex Libris.
  • Waiting for p_manage_18_p (record loader using parallel processes), p_file_99 (Marcive), and “golem” fixes from Ex Libris.
  • Waiting to hear from Baker and Taylor to enable MWW to order from two accounts.
  • Blackwell’s Book Services Collection Manager and EDI book ordering are working in version 17.>  Currently, MSU Mankato is the only ADM using Collection Manager.
  • Waiting to hear from Ex Libris about problems with discounts and funds when using Blackwell’s Book Services Collection Manager to create order records in Aleph.
  • Sent Ex Libris new examples of records that should have matched in the Marcive loader.
  • Tested the Marcive loader with version 17 on Lute.  A SI was created because it was adding an erroneous OWN code of “Public” to holdings records.  There will be a fix for the problem in the March service pack.
  • Loaded records for a new Rasmussen sublibrary on Harp.
  • A problem with the NetLibrary records for CTC was reported.  It appears a fix routine did not work.>  Will be looking at options to do a global fix on these records.
  • Currently working on SQL reports and services recommended by the Reports Group.
  • The version 17 conversion and upgrade tasks are completed.
  • Continuing to work on Right Now tickets.
  • Preparing presentations for the MnLINK Regional meeting next week.
  • Al will be the technical liaison for the newly formed Discovery Task Force which will have its first meeting on March 27th at St. Benedict’s College.
  • Preparing to set up a secure ftp site on Harp for patron data.
  • Assisting in technical issues for the new PALS website.
  • Will be installing Wiki software.
  • Work on the file transfer from the business office and reformatting it for input to Aleph remains to be done.
