Aleph version 19 upgrade - January 14 updateFrom Linda Richter
The upgrade to Aleph version 19 is in progress. We are on track for a late March, 2009 production date. After the consortium libraries have had a chance to work with version 19 in February, a definite go-live date will be set. We will particularly be looking at the results of the Course Reserves data review planned for the first 2 weeks in February.
Following is an update on the work completed, in progress, and coming up.
Completed
- Version 19 is installed on the test server, and is called dev19.
- Data from the production Aleph server has been loaded to dev19 and the upgrade express kit has been run.
- Service packs have been installed on dev19 so that it is up to date through December, 2008 (next service pack expected in March).
- The PALS staff has the version 19 client installed on their workstations.
- A schedule for information sessions has been developed. They will be held Feb. 18 – March 6.
- The Course Reserves web training sessions have been scheduled for March 10-11.
In progress
- The PALS staff is testing version 19.
- Preparations for the information sessions are underway.
- Registration setup for the information sessions is in progress.
- A Course Reserves recorded session is being created to introduce the new integrated Course Reserves module. This will allow libraries using Course Reserves to do data review in early February.
- The OPAC customizations and custom services and reports are being incorporated.
- A document describing the new staff permissions functionality in version 19 is being created for distribution in February.
Coming up
- The use of the ‘harp’ name for the production server will be discontinued in March. We will use the generic name ‘aleph’ so that it is not dependent on the physical server on which it resides. Watch for an announcement with the details later this week.
- The version 19 clients will be built beginning next week and will be made available to the libraries by the end of January.
- A second test upgrade is scheduled for February 3-6.
- The information sessions will be held Feb. 18 – March 6. The Course Reserves web training sessions will be held March 10-11. Watch for the registration announcements.
- The production server will be down for a few hours on a Saturday on the weekend that we do the switch over. The web OPAC and MnPALS Plus will be redirected to dev18 during this time. This is tentatively planned for March 21, but is contingent on the testing that occurs in February.
